The Identity of each mouse is built up from an unique WTSI internal four letter prefix (MBML; colony prefix), the pairing number (36 or 39), the litter number within that pairing (3), and the pup born within that litter ( a,b,c,d,e, etc. = 1,2,3,4, 5, etc.).
The ear mark (1L, 1L2R etc., where L=Left and R=Right) describes the ear clipping pattern to identify the individual mouse.
